En route to Alaska in search of work, young drifter Wendy (a brilliant Michelle Williams) spends the night in her car in a small Oregon town. Already on financial thin ice and with only her dog Lucy for company, the setbacks she suffers during this stopover reveal how perilously marginal her existence has become. Kelly Reichardt's quietly observant film takes the economic and social temperature of contemporary smalltown life, finding real political resonance in this seemingly simple tale.
