The Experiment: July 2009

And tumult of defeated dreams; and deep
Among pale eyelids heavy with the sleep
Men have named beauty. Your great leaves enfold
The ancient beards, the helms of ruby and gold
Of the crowned Magi; and the king whose eyes
Saw the Pierced Hands and Rood of Elder rise.

Extract from the poem To The Secret Rose by W. B. Yeats

The dreaming clanging sounds from the progressive sounding past are piercing this months podcast via the romantic-eccentric Goblin - the italian progressive rockers have just played their first gigs in almost 35 years. We are highlighting and showcasing a few tracks from their impressive back catalogue - welcome back Goblin you terrible thing of beauty.

Next we have the aptly name record label Scotch Tapes - for Scotch Tapes are a tape only release label hailing from the shores of Canada great Lake Superior and Batchawana Bay, Ontario. We are showcasing three artists from the Scotch tapes stable - first the brilliantly named The Insect Explosion who are a London based tape/acoustmatic outfit playing chewed up ambience and drones of weirdness.

Also we have mad as a fishy light snack - Ladies Disaster! from the coast-less bavarian city of Munich and finally from Scotch Tapes we have the equally amazingly named Tayside Mental Health who produce wonderful caches of noise which are intensely addictive pieces of music.

Ever wondered what 'the jane mansfield death cars' sounded or even looked like well look no further - we have them as part of our second record label showcase for this months pod. Skrot up - who are another tape only releasing record label, this time hailing from the drenched and watery surrounded country of Denmark - which is probably not the best description it has ever received; But funnily enough Skrot up as a label like the sound recording equivalent via the deathly tones distortion, fuzz and overdubbed tapes - which is incidentally a good way to describe the beat driven noise of the jane mansfield death cars.

Next up on Skrot up is one of the labels first recording artists - FNU Ronnies - think metal being beaten whilst cloaked inside a pulsating electro-magnetic field both imaginatively playful and freely constructive music.

Last on Skrot up we have Dharma who have released a C35 tape for the label called Flesh - tranced out disco noize - kicking the 80's up a cosmic hollow drainpipe.

Halloween Swin Team - the mysterious band that escape last months podcast - HST bringing a new take to disco moog - 8-bit pop meets downtown silver lake noisiness - lovely combinations and a delight to behold.
