Rosalind Nashashibi’s print takes as its source the artist’s new installation In Rehearsal (2009), shown for the first time at the ICA. In Rehearsal consists of over a hundred photographs and a soundtrack, and documents the preparations for an opera. For her print the artist has reproduced one of these images as a silkscreen, and collaged it into a reproduction of a page of a book on African art. Nashashibi establishes formal and intuitive links between the images, underlining her engagement with notions of transformation, role-play and metamorphosis.

Works on paper are integral to Nashashibi’s practice, and draw attention to ideas and images that recur within her work. This print, available exclusively at the ICA, represents an exceptional opportunity to collect a new work by the artist, who is having her first major survey at the ICA. Nashashibi’s ICA exhibition includes a variety of her film and photographic pieces since 2005. The artist’s other exhibitions include solo projects at Chisenhale, London (2007) and Tate Britain (2004), while her group exhibitions include Manifesta 7 (2008) and Scotland & Venice, 52nd Venice Biennale (2007).
