Winner of the Palme D’Or at Cannes in 1997 (shared with Kiarostami’s Taste of Cherry), this wry drama follows a man starting a new life after eight years in prison for murdering his wife. He becomes a barber, befriends an eel, saves a suicidal woman and attempts to come to terms with his past. A sedate tale with powerful undercurrents and unexpected disruptions.
