Part of the ICA Print Portfolio 2009.

Lithograph with cut-out shape on archival mount board
Size 52 x 40cm
Edition of 100 with signed certificate

Aleksandra Mir’s works take the form of social processes that are open to anyone who wishes to give the work meaning. Known for her installations and her self-published zines, books, posters and videos, Mir’s recent projects include The How Not to Cookbook and her work for the 2009 Venice Biennale – which consisted of million postcards of watery waterscapes from around the world, all overlaid with the words ‘Venezia’.

Mir’s lithograph for the ICA is based on one of the ‘Sharpie’ drawings which have been a central element of her practice in recent years. The edition takes the form of a printed picture mount, and the artist invites the owner to participate in the work by framing a photograph of their love object within the heart-shaped hole.

Aleksandra Mir was born in Lubin, Poland, and lives and works in Palermo, Sicily. Her solo exhibitions include projects at Schirn Kunsthalle, Frankfurt, in 2009. Mir showed in the three-person ICA exhibition Publicness in 2003.
