Kaurismäki is admired by Jarmusch for his celebration of bizarre, marginal characters and deadpan humour (his 1992 film La vie de bohème is referenced in The Limits of Control). In this tale of a man who loses his memory after a vicious attack, the Finnish film-maker strikes a perfect balance of mockery, absurd touches and tenderness.
