The debut feature of film-maker and novelist Xiaolu Guo (writer of A Concise Chinese-English Dictionary For Lovers) tells the story of Mei, a Chinese woman raised in a backwater. Her search for a different life takes her to the city and eventually to England. Exploring themes of alienation and personal identity that Xiaolu’s readers will recognise from her books, this is an intense and emotional story told with real style and sincerity. Helping things along is a score from John Parish. An Optimum release.
