Billy Childish: And His Hat Rolled Clean Away

£180.00

Sold Out. Etching, each uniquely hand-painted in watercolour
56 x 38 cm on 250 gsm Somerset Buff
Edition of 100, signed and numbered by the artist using his gallows symbol

The ICA is proud to announce the second limited edition etching by Billy Childish made for the ICA to accompany his major solo exhibition. Published as a signed and numbered edition of 100, with each print uniquely hand-painted by the artist, the edition relates to a group of recent paintings made by Childish which reference the marginalised Swiss Modernist writer, Rober Walser, a character with whom Childish strongly identifies. The print depicts the moment the writer falls to his death after taking a long nocturnal walk in the snow. The edition is co-published with L-13 Light Industrial Workshop, London.

Artist, musician and writer Billy Childish was born in 1959 in Chatham in Kent, where he still lives, and his prodigious range of activities can be best understood as a total work of art – one which centres on his own extraordinary persona. Childish is a cult figure, and one who has gained an international following and this special hand coloured edition represents an exceptional opportunity to collect a work by Childish.

The edition will be available at the special launch price of £150 for the first 50 prints. ICA Members are offered priority purchase on prints, plus exclusive discounts.

The ICA regularly publishes limited edition prints by exhibiting artists and recent collaborations include Matthew Brannon, Mark Camille Chaimowicz, Mark Leckey and Frances Stark. All proceeds contribute to the ICA’s future exhibition programme.

Pendragon Fine Art Frames are the ICA’s official framing partner – frame your limited edition with them and receive a 15% discount (contact Vicky Steer for details).
