A true Gothic monstrosity from director Harry Kümel, restored to its full two-hour glory after being butchered in the 1970s. A sailor returns from his travels to his family estate of Malpertuis, an ominous mansion distinguished by its series of mysterious spaces and tenants. Uncle Orson Welles promises to divide the property up amongst his heirs as long as they never leave the house again, which due to its ever-shifting labyrinthine interior is highly unlikely whether they want to or not.
