Pop culture has returned to Afghanistan. The producers of Afghan Star, the country's version of Pop Idol, believe they can "move people from guns to music", thousands audition for the show and millions vote for their favourites each week. But music is still dangerous in Afghanistan, and women who enter fear for their lives. This extraordinary documentary follows the young contestants for two months, right up to the final, watched by one quarter of the population. This was first Afghan film ever to play at Sundance film festival, where it won two awards.
