If your favourite book, song, TV show or poem was to be destroyed, could you save it by committing it to memory - by 'becoming' it? Artist Simon Pope invites participants to join the live event in Trafalgar Square.
Imagine every book, film, play or song is about to be destroyed, every news story, television and radio programme about to be erased. What would you do? What could you save? Simon Pope invites you to join Charade and volunteer to 'become' your chosen item and to commit it to memory.
Inspired by Fahrenheit 451, Charade imagines a future where our most treasured items from the media are under threat of destruction. When forced to rely on our own memories and bodies for storage and retrieval, how would our relationship to these artefacts change? What new forms of ownership and distribution might emerge?
Simon Pope is holding a series of informal meetings in the lead up to the 24 June, where you'll find tips on how to learn your work and how to perform as well as gain support from other participants.
Subscribe to the newsfeed and be first to hear about gatherings at locations in central London and details of the live event in Trafalgar Square. You can register, subscribe and find out more about the project at www.charade.org.uk.
Free entry to the ICA from 6pm if you bring your chosen item to memorise (book, DVD, CD/iPod etc.) and tell the ticket office that you're part of Charade.
