Bravura adaptation of Jim Thompson's pulp classic novel, Pop. 1280, that Tavernier cleverly transfers from the USA and resets in French colonial Africa immediately before World War II. Philippe Noiret is outstanding as the ne'er-do-well, genial and downtrodden cop who finally blows a fuse with murderous effect. Following the screening of Clean Slate, Bertrand Tavernier will be in conversation with Crime Scene Director, Adrian Wootton, to discuss his long and distinguished film-making career and the making of his very latest movie, In the Electric Mist.
