From Insult to Injury

9 March 2009

£10 / £9 Concessions / £8 ICA Members.

Nancy Fraser, professor of political and social science at The New School in New York and author of Scales of Justice and Adding Insult to Injury, describes how the left has turned away from poverty in favour of a focus on identity, recognition and representation, and the consequences of doing so. Can these newer concerns be combined with an agenda for equality; if not, what are the consequences for leftist politics? How, in any case, should the left frame struggles for social justice in a globalising world? Fraser will be in conversation with Anne Phillips, professor of political and gender theory at LSE and author of Multiculturalism Without Culture.
