***** "Peerless stuff" Time Out

"An absolute must for anyone at all curious about where modern-day maestros such as David Lynch, Terry Gilliam or David Cronenberg got many of their ideas." The Daily Telegraph

A unique series of cinema programmes from the Independent Cinema Office presenting iconic and influential artists' films. The first programme in this series, Essentials: Dreams, is a carefully picked selection of classic shorts that have blazed a trail through fashion, music, design and the visual arts, and influenced countless films during the last century.

Cinema has flirted with the fantastic since its origins, and some of the most potent and penetrating explorations of the unfathomable world of the unconscious can be found in Essentials: Dreams. The mythic, the nightmarish and the psychedelic are all here.

Un Chien Andalou (Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali, 1929, France, 17min)
Les Jeux des Anges (Walerian Borowczyk, 1964, France, 12min)
Meshes of the afternoon (Maya Deren and Alexander Hammid, 1943, USA, 13min)
Dimensions of Dialogue (Jan Švankmajer, 1982, Czech Republic, 13min)
Asparagus (Suzan Pitt, 1974-78, USA, 19min)
Our Lady of the Sphere (Lawrence Jordan, 1969, USA, 10min)

Total running time 84 mins.
