It Goes Unsaid explores the 'colour complex', the social values ascribed to complexion, hair texture and other characteristics used to identify 'blackness'. Blending dramatic monologue and dance with film and photography, It Goes Unsaid follows six different characters experiencing the colour complex in all of its intricacy and contradiction. Co-authors Rhonney Greene, Teresa Michelle Lasley, and Derek Lee McPhatter developed this work as the first in a series focused on self-hatred.
It Goes Unsaid premiered as a part of the Raw Performing Arts Series in 2006 at UCLA.
