Miss Universe 1929 + Q&A

Miss Universe 1929, Dir Péter Forgács, Austria/Netherlands/Hungary 2006
Miss Universe 1929, Dir Péter Forgács, Austria/Netherlands/Hungary 2006
16 November 2008

At Galveston, Texas in 1929, a Jewish princess from Vienna made history. Lisl Goldarbeiter was crowned Miss Universe, Austria's first and only winner of the coveted title. But who was Lisl Goldarbeiter and why did she turn her back on Hollywood for an uncertain future in Austria? With archive and found footage, director Péter Forgács is both an archaeologist and a craftsman, revealing a story of lives ruptured by history.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the pioneering documentary maker Péter Forgács.

In association with the Hungarian Cultural Centre.
