My Neighbor, My Killer

26 March 2009

£8 / £7 Concessions / £6 ICA Members.

In 1994 Rwanda's Hutu population was incited to wipe out the country's Tutsi minority. From the crowded capital to the smallest village, local 'patrols' killed their friends and family members. In 1999 the government began Gacaca -open-air hearings with citizen-judges meant to try their neighbours and rebuild the nation. Filming for close to a decade in a tiny rural hamlet, award-winning film-maker Anne Aghion has charted the impact of Gacaca on survivors and perpetrators alike.

Dir Anne Aghion, US 2009, 80 mins, subtitles, Recommended Cert 15
