A night celebrating the best in Gypsy culture, with a screening of ICA folk music documentary Gypsy Caravan and a special evening from ICA regulars Roots & Shoots, with guest DJs Garth Cartwright and Penny Metal, who had the crowd dancing till the lights came on last month.
Featuring DJs Garth Cartwright, author of Princes Amongst Men: Journeys With Gypsy Musicians (Serpents Tail); Leon Parker, record hunter and DJ with a strong preference for exotic sounds from across the globe; and Penny Metal, spinning a quirky mix of Russian ska, punk and chanson, mixed up with the crazy Ukrainian wedding music, klezmer, Italian and Balkan tunes.
The soundtrack to Gypsy Caravan, featuring tracks and incidental music both from and inspired by the film, is available from the ICA bookshop, all good record shops, or direct from harmonia mundi distribution.
Visit the Gypsy Caravan website.
Screening only: £8 / £7 Concessions / £6 ICA Members
Party only: £4 / £3 Concessions / Free to ICA Members before 10pm.
