Stage of the Art: Gonzales and Le Together Ensemble + Poni Hoax

Gonzales
Gonzales
28 April 2008

The Canada-born piano tickler comes to the ICA for the second of our French exchanges, following the sleazy, storming set from Sebastien Tellier in February. Gonzales has worked with Feist, Jamie Lidell and Peaches, been compared to Frank Zappa and George Clinton, and just made a new electronica-funk album of delights, Soft Power, where his lilting piano laments have become sweetly, curiously optimistic.

Tonight he performs his new electronica-funk set live with the help of Canadian friends, Le Together Ensemble, featuring SoCalled, Katie Moore, Matthew Flowers and the infamous Mocky. If you saw the latter perform with Gonzales at Jarvis Cocker’s Meltdown last year, you'll know you're in for a treat.

If that isn't enough to get you disco dancing around the room in anticipation, there's also support from French born party animals, Poni Hoax, who blend Italo Disco and garage rock into what's been described by Rough Trade as "something that's gonna have the kids going insane."
