The Experiment: March 2008

Ariel Pink, Malleable Records, Daniel Menche, and an interview with Charles Hayward are all on the Experiment's March wavelength.

Lo-fi pop ditties from the worn copies and haunted graffiti of Ariel Pink gets this months Experiment bubbling away. From there it's over to Philadelphia's Malleable Records who offer up some visceral electronics and "precious harsh audio" via the sounds of Mincemeat or Tenspeed, Csection and Dave Smolen.

From Philadelphia to Portland, Daniel Menche continues his quest for "vehement beauty" with a piece from his fantastic Deluge and Sunder album.

This month we also caught up with London's own Charles Hayward (formerly of This Heat and Camberwell Now) at his studio for a chat on his artistic endeavours thus far. From bloodied keyboards with This Heat, to musical mazes in a Deptford warehouse, it's all up for discussion.

The Experiment is a monthly podcast commissioned by the ICA and presented and produced by Kevin Quigley and Jim Hammond.
