The ICA Archive
The Tate Archive holds the archive of the Institute of Contemporary Arts from 1947 to 1987.
The ICA archive is an incredibly rich resource for anyone interested in the visual arts, theatre and performance art, dance, critical thought, music and sound art, and film. As well as providing a record of events, the ICA's publicity material reflects changes in graphic design through five decades, and the correspondence and press-cuttings document British society's changing attitudes to contemporary art.
The ICA archive is stored at the Hyman Kreitman Research Centre at Tate Britain - collection number TGA 955. The first section of the archive has been catalogued and is therefore fully available - the Dorothy Morland papers (TGA 955/1). These cover approximately the period from 1946 to 1968.
Material from 1968-1987 has been mostly catalogued, with the exception of some printed material, AV material and photographs. Work on this material is ongoing. More detailed information about what items are available is accessible through the Tate's online archive catalogue. If you need specific information or cannot find what you are looking for, the staff at the Tate Library & Archive will always try to help.
The Tate have also created an online showcase of selected materials from the ICA archive, along with a timeline through which the history of the ICA can be explored.

Access to the Hyman Kreitman Research Centre is by appointment and for reference only. All readers are required to complete the registration procedure in order to use the Research Centre. Admission is free.
