Powell and Pressburger's stately, intimate drama about Boer War and World War I veteran Clive Candy (played beautifully by Roger Livesey) who struggles to adapt to the military manners of the World War II. A lifetime of experience is cleverly charted through his friendship with German officer Anton Walbrook and his romances with Deborah Kerr, who plays the three women in Candy's life.
