A unique programme bringing together London's 4 premier cultural institutions in a programme of study leading to a Masters or PhD.
The London Consortium is a unique programme that brings together London's 4 premier cultural institutions, providing a rigorous, challenging and exhilarating programme of study leading to a Masters or PhD degree in the Humanities and Cultural Studies.
Established in 1995, no other Masters or PhD programme in the world offers to its students the resources of the cutting-edge Architectural Association, a renowned University (Birkbeck College), one of the world's most famous art centres (Institute of Contemporary Arts), and a major international art gallery and museum (Tate Galleries). As befits the four participating institutions, the courses provide a mixture of the most intellectually ambitious academic argument with the opportunity to test those studies against the work of organisations that make cultural policy decisions on a daily basis.
The Consortium has an internationally distinguished regular and visiting faculty. Students are taught by an extraordinary range of leading scholars and practitioners, ranging from architectural theorists and designers through specialists in art history and curatorial work, to cinema critics and film-makers, and historians, literary scholars, artists, political theorists and philosophers. Furthermore, all students automatically have privileged access to the event programmes and resources of the four participating institutions-- exhibitions, screenings, debates and a host of seminars and conferences.
