I particularly liked the character with a flower growing out of his bum...
I've started a new monthly night! Woop! Every month I invite an illustrator to come along and show us their drawing magic in response to music of their choice. So in the first month Ian Stevenson brought along his drawing pal Bob London , they made a very special mix-tape of music they wanted to draw to and off they went! Sitting at the table one right handed, one left, they both drew on the same piece of paper creating characters and strange stories. Both the drawings and a lot of the music were really funny, starting the night off with Gary Glitter immediately followed by ‘We're Having a Gang Bang' went down surprisingly well! I also particularly liked the character with a flower growing out of his bum...
The idea is for each month to be really different as illustrators respond to the idea in new ways. The November Heavy Pencil is going to feature top drawer (see what I did there?) graphic artist Anthony Burrill . He does a lot of text based work, so he'll be pre-recording some phrases that his pal DJ Chris Coco will weave in and out of his tunes as Anthony draws and writes. He came down to the first one and saw the power of two drawing minds working so well that he's invited Melvin Galapon to join him at the drawing table.
Come along and witness the wonder and if you think you can do better send me an email and maybe you can be the holder of the next Heavy Pencil.
