"Getting a new website ready for launch is no fun."
As of September 11th 2006 (an inauspicious date: a bad day to bury good news?) you're looking at the Institute of Contemporary Arts' brand new website, developed with our friends at Spin and Tincan, part of a complete rebrand which includes a new logo, also courtesy of Spin. The next few months are exciting times for the ICA, and this website is just one part of it.
Getting a new website ready for launch is no fun: getting to grips with powerful but unfamiliar new tools, harassing your colleagues for copy, organizing and reorganizing the pages. Inevitably, I’m writing this at 8pm on Sunday night (in between editing and encoding audio clips from the new archive section.), my fingers crossed that it’s all going to go well tomorrow…
(There will inevitably be glitches to begin with, but we’ll be fixing them as fast as we can. If you find something that isn’t working as you think it should be, please go to the Help section and submit a bug report. And bear with us...)
I’m the ICA’s first full-time dedicated web manager, and I think it’s fair to say that the ICA is now taking the web seriously as never before. I dropped straight into the last two months of an eighteen-month project to fund and redevelop the site, just in time to get it all ready for launch. But what you see here is just the beginning. In the coming weeks and months this site will fill up with content on what's new (More on ICA Films: trailers and notes; Digital Art Commissions), but also give a glimpse into the ICA's rich and intriguing past, with tapes of talks and material from exhibitions brought back from the archive.
I hope you enjoy the site. If there’s something you’d like to say, please leave a comment, below.
