ICA is pleased to present this limited edition print by Judith Bernstein, to celebrate the opening of the group exhibition Keep Your Timber Limber (Works on Paper) (19 June – 8 September 2013).

For 50 years Judith Bernstein has created expressive drawings and paintings that boldly critique militarism and machismo in a manner that is at once humorous and threatening. Referencing the subliminal, Bernstein's work is a psychological amalgamation of sex, war and feminism in different orders and priorities.

For the ICA, Bernstein has made her first flocked print since the 1970s. The print, entitled Dick in a Head, derives from an on-going series of drawings that refer to the idea that sex is in the head.

Judith Bernstein was born in 1942 in Newark, New Jersey. Her work can be found in several major public collections such as Whitney Collection, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Kronhausen Collection, Sweden; and Yale Art Gallery, CT. Her work was the subject of a major retrospective at New Museum, New York; Judith Bernstein: Hard (10 October 2012 – 20 January 2013).
