Jean-Pierre Leaud is the young rebel Antoine Doinel in Truffaut’s freewheeling debut feature, which features elements of directorial autobiography as the young character plays truant, turns to petty crime and ends up being placed in a reform school. Fascinating when seen in conjunction with new documentary Two in the Wave.

Dir Francois Truffaut, France 1959, 95 mins, subtitles, digital, PG
