BAFTA Masterclass Labs: Editing with Andrew Hulme

BAFTA and the ICA are back to deliver a new programme of masterclass labs where innovative talents from the film and television industries are invited to share their creative practices with the audience. Sessions are well illustrated with clips or other media, and with much time for questions, these masterclass labs give the audience an opportunity to exchange ideas with some of the industries’ exceptional newer talents.

Andrew Hulme’s most recent Editor credit is the BBC’s Golden Globe nominated The Girl and BAFTA nominated documentary The Imposter. Previously he has edited Anton Corbijn’s The American and Control. He has been a film editor on both narrative and documentary features since 1990 before which he trained as an assistant film editor at the BBC.

He has collaborated on multiple features with director Paul McGuigan. Among these have been the multi-part Irvine Welsh adaptation(s) The Acid House, incorporating the award-winning short Granton Star Cause; Wicker Park; Gangster No. 1; The Reckoning; the documentary Playing Nintendo with God; and Lucky Number Slevin, for which he won the Best Editing award at the Milan International Film Festival.

Hulme was also BAFTA nominee for editing Julian Jarrold’s telefilm Red Riding – 1974, the first feature in the acclaimed trilogy, starring Rebecca Hall. Previously for the same director, he edited the mini-series White Teeth, starring Phil Davis and Naomie Harris. He has edited several documentary features for director Julian Benedikt, including The History of Blue Note, Stars by Helmut Newton, Jazz Seen, and Play Your Own Thing.
