Fanfarlo + Orphans & Vandals + Serafina Steer

25 Apr 2008

Like a fried egg in a sandwich or the pelicans in St James's park, Serafina Steer belongs in the Nash room, strumming her harp, singing her songs of older brothers, mountains and buy-to-let property and calling to mind, brilliantly, both Pam Ayres and Virginia Woolf. Tonight she's on the bill with Fanfarlo, already top-tipped by David Bowie, a band who are melancholy and sweeping and a bit confusing, the sound of Beirut having a quiet pint with Neutral Milk Hotel, and the pleasantly grubby Orphans & Vandals, who make you feel a bit weepy and yet still you want to stay, like when you fancy the person who's bullying you.
