Live Weekends: Shunt

23 Feb 201127 Feb 2011

Curated by members of the Shunt collective, this Live Weekend will offer an invitation to an eclectic mix of artists to explore and animate the various spaces of the ICA’s ground floor. Without attempting to reproduce the experience of the Shunt Lounge, the curators will nonetheless be building on their experience of three years of vibrant and exciting programming that explored the relation between audience and artist at their former home at the Shunt Vaults. The ICA will become a workshop for new performance projects by a diverse group of artists - from the improvisatory to the designed, from one-to-one performances to spectacles, from the interactive to the hermetic - including film, music, talks, theatre, puppetry, and installation. Amongst the artists and companies being invited to participate are Little Bulb, Kazuko Hokhi and Frank Chickens, Action Hero, Melanie Wilson, Mamoru Iriguchi, and a host of others, including several of the Shunt artists themselves. The sense of the long weekend would be akin to a mini-festival on the Mall, offering the intriguing and the surprising for an audience that may come with expectation or with none.

Shunt is a collective of artists creating large-scale performance events in unexpected, abandoned or derelict buildings throughout London. Recently concluding a labyrinthian residency known as The Lounge as well as the acclaimed show Money the collective currently reside in the London Bridge area of the capital at Shunt Bermondsey.
