Nils Bech

23 Jun 2011

Nils Bech presents a performance that considers the subject matter for his next album about "the healing process" and the healing effect of different rituals. Featuring musicians, Bendik Giske, Kari Rønnekleiv and Ole Henrik Moe, in a mix of acoustics, electronics and a cappella, the performance utilises found objects from around the Institute.

Previously Bech has sourced material from classical and popular music to deliver poignant comments on the contemporary art world. His performance of Tina Turner’s Private Dancer at the Interview magazine party at Art Basel Miami turned the art fair into a scene of prostitutes hustling for money, while his song Vagabond Girl, based on Agnes Varda’s Vagabond, is a tribute to his friend and colleague Ida Ekblad.

The ICA is delighted to welcome Nils to the stage during Pablo Bronstein: Sketches for Regency Living. The performance is part of a contemporary music sequence at the ICA on Thursday evenings – comprised of composed and improvised occasions with a conceptual twist. Nils Bech’s work illustrates the hybridisation at play between art, music and dance today.
