Open City Docs Fest: The Machine Which Makes Everything Disappear + Q&A

21 Jun 2013

Upon returning to Georgia to make a film about her homeland, Tinatin Gurchiani put out a casting call for 15 to 23-year-olds. When the young hopefuls arrive to audition, instead of a script, they are subjected to a series of probing questions, through which they share personal stories and reflections. These stark but intimate interviews are combined with vérité sketches, following her protagonists through scenes in their daily lives, creating a rich and fascinating portrait of post-Soviet Georgian society that takes us as far from journalistic cliché as documentary can.

UK Premiere. Best Director Award, Sundance Film Festival 2013. Nominated for Grand Jury Award.

Followed by a Q&A with director Tinatin Gurchiani.
