A wild and at times deliberately bewildering tale set on a Okinawan island where an inbred family confront an engineer sent from Tokyo to convert sugarcane. Imamura captures the environment with sticky, you-are-there immediacy, with the often blackly comic tale framed by memorable nature photography. Rarely shown, not available on DVD and not to be missed!
