Still: A Promise to the Dead

A Promise to the Dead + Q&A

14 Mar 2008

On 11 September 1973, Chile's military attacked its government. Democratically elected president Salvador Allende called government members to the presidential palace to stand against their attackers, facing certain death. Ariel Dorfman was Allende's cultural advisor, and should have been called too; he later discovered his name had been struck from the list so he could live to tell what happened that day. In 2006, with Allende's overthrower Augusto Pinochet dying, Dorfman returns to Chile for an exploration of exile, memory and the search for justice.

The screening is followed by a Q&A with Ariel Dorfman and the director.

Dir Peter Raymont, US 2006, 92 mins, subtitles
