Psychedelica @ The ICA

29 Mar 2011

Join us and our special guests for an amazing night of music and dancing with live performances, psychedelic films and artistic interventions as we bring the party to our home on The Mall for Psychedelica.

Starting at 9pm and continuing into the early hours, Psychedelica is a chance to re-explore our home on a journey through space and time. Film and video, musical performers in secret spaces, live interventions, and DJs will provide an array of experiences for your senses.

Our special guests boyleANDshaw, Jonny Woo, Carley Hague and The House Of Egypt, Centre of the Universe and Nigel and Louise from London’s SHUNT collective are bringing together an outstanding group of characters, music and performance for you to party the night away with delicious food and Moet Hennessy cocktails in outstanding surroundings.

Music will be provided by Demdike Stare, Pandora’s Jukebox and The Time and Space Machine. Demdike Stare is the occult themed project from Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty combining vinyl records and hardware to create music that blurs genres and stirs up emotions from the dark side of the human psyche.

Pandora’s Jukebox is fronted by Yasmina Dexter known for her distinctive DJ sets and intricate catwalk soundscapes. The eclectronica of Pandora’s Jukebox samples the delights of the more perverse and moody side of dance music, making for a beautiful, sometimes surreal and eminently danceable experience.

The Time and Space Machine is Richard Norris from Beyond the Wizard’s Sleeve, a massively influentual psychedelic edit and re-issue outfit. Richard began releasing tracks as The Time and Space Machine, to take remixing and re-editing one stage further by releasing original music working with groups such as Primal Scream, Silver Columns, Doves and many more.

Auction
As part of the celebrations we will be auctioning over 30 original works created by established and emerging artists including Damien Hirst, Ai Weiwei, Jake and Dinos Chapman and many more. 15 of these auction lots will be available for bidding on the night. All lots are available for preview from 23-27 March in the Upper Galleries and visitors will be able to place absentee bids in advance.

The ICA would like to thank all of the artists and galleries who have supported our auction and our special thanks go to made.com and Velorution for donating special items for the contemporary artists who customised each piece to produce a unique work for our psychedelic theme.
