In this age of powerful low-cost computer technology, digital visual effects are no longer the exclusive preserve of Hollywood blockbusters. But incorporating effects into a small budget production requires experience and careful planning if expensive mistakes are to be avoided, and new technologies are frequently expanding the creative possibilities. Industry insiders Alan Marques (lead tutor for the LFA's new digital film VFX course) and Dave Barnard (post-production and digital technology specialist) give the lowdown on the low-budget spectacle.
