In a central Russian city, Aist (Sergeev, DOWNFALL) is joined by his companion Miron (Tsurilo) as he takes the body of his deceased wife Tanya (Aug) to the banks of the river for a traditional cremation ceremony. As the two make their way to the water, Aist begins to share stories of his married life with Tanya. Fedorchenko blends together pre-Slavic traditions with a post-USSR industrial fugue, steeping his taciturn picture in philosophy and history. With great attention to detail, metaphor and symbolism, he takes us on a journey to a part of Russian life that we do not often get a chance to explore.
