Strange Culture + Q&A

16 Mar 2008

In 2004, US college professor and radical artist Steve Kurtz was preparing an interactive exhibition that would have allowed participants to test food labelled 'organic' for the presence of genetically modified organisms. His wife's sudden death led to a FBI investigation that saw Kurtz's scientific materials and his wife's body impounded. Kurtz was held as a suspected bio-terrorist, and three years later he faces up to 20 years in prison. Using actors to dramatise parts of the story that Kurtz cannot legally discuss, Lynn Hershman Leeson creates a fascinating, provocative documentary about post-9/11 paranoia.

Followed by a director Q&A.

Screening with short Virtual Freedom.

Dir Lynn Hershman Leeson, US 2007, 76 mins
