Admired indie director Gregg Araki returns to the cinematic landscape and mood of his 2004 breakout hit Mysterious Skin with this haunting and darkly funny portrait of provincial scandal and teenage angst.

Eva Green (The Dreamers) turns in a gloriously vampish performance as a frustrated housewife who vanishes, leaving her troubled teenage daughter Kat to piece together the mystery of her disappearance. Part intriguing thriller, part suburban satire in the tradition of The Ice Storm and American Beauty, Araki's film is a bizarre and hypnotic trip into the strange underworld of small-town American life.

White Bird in a Blizzard, dir. Gregg Araki, France/USA 2014, 91 mins.
